How to Switch Microsoft Account to Local in Windows 10

If you don’t wish to make use of Microsoft Account to login to your computer, follow below the steps required to convert, alter or switch Microsoft Account to Local User Account in Windows 10.

Change Microsoft Account to Local Account in Windows 10

Windows 10 prompts users to give an Email Address When they set up a new computer or installing Windows 10 on an existing computer.

When an Email Address is entered, Windows 10 automatically creates the Microsoft Account which is used to log in to your computer and access Microsoft services such as Skype, OneDrive, Teams and many more.

If you don’t wish to sign in to your computer with Microsoft Account, you can either remove Microsoft Account from your computer or change Microsoft Account to Local User Account.

The first option erases all files, photos and data that are stored within the Microsoft Account, while the second option preserves all your data intact and eliminates your Microsoft Account from your computer.

Switch Microsoft Account to Local User Account

To Switch Microsoft Account to Local Account You must be logged into the computer with Microsoft Account.

Navigate to Accounts, Settings and then choose the account you want to sign into. Info in the left-hand pane. In the right-hand side you will see Sign-in using your local account instead of clicking on the of the link.

If asked, enter you password for your current Microsoft Account Password and click on Next.

On the ‘Switch on to Local Account’ screen, enter User Name, Password, and then click Next.

Next screen click Sign Out and click the finish button.

Then your computer will no longer be linked by Microsoft Account and you will be able to log in to your computer with the local User Account as well as the Password you’ve just created.

What Happens When You Switch Microsoft Account to Local Account?

If you change the current Microsoft User Account to Local Account and back to Microsoft Account, it will be removed from the Microsoft Account will no longer be linked to your computer and you’ll be able to log in using the new Local User Account.

All files, photos and other data that were accessible in Microsoft Account will remain available on your personal computer. You can access these files from your local user account.

However, apps and Programs that you downloaded to the computer using your Microsoft Account will still remain associated with Microsoft Account. Microsoft Account.

Moving or switching your Microsoft Account to Local Account is not a way to delete or make invalid the validity of your Microsoft Account in any way. It’s still valid and lets you log in for Microsoft Services like Skype, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams and other Microsoft Services.
